HLS BOOK CLUB - Powerful Coaching through Leadership by Micheal Simpson

Hi guys!

I hope you had a great week and I spent my weekend literally clearing up clutter and sorting all the books and things piling up. So whenever I get time to read my books and catch up I always look forward to that time. The latest book by Micheal Simpson, which I absolutely enjoyed reading and couldn’t put it down. Here are some of my key highlights from the book. Listen for my video, I share my personal experiences as well in applying the leadership techniques and what were the challenges I faced. NEGATIVE LEADER - A bad leader doesn’t have clear vision, don’t know their team and focus on the negative of their team. They cant keep promises, they don’t listen and can be rude and aggressive when it comes to getting things done. These are some of the qualities

MICRO MANAGER - Managers focused on always tracking everything that their employees are doing. They want to know everything that they are doing and that can become a very suffocating environment. Its important to be respectful and give your employees their own time and way to do things. This can lead to increasing trust and help build a good environment.

SET CLEAR GOALS - The manager doesn’t have realistic goals and then how it impacts the performance of the team. I worked with a team where the goals were not being met by all the team members and that is the way that the people are working hard but if they are not

WORK CULTURE - People need to have a good work culture and they would want to know how to enjoy their work place. With feedback and reviews we would see that salary might be the reason people quit but besides that favoritism, work politics, bad management, not feeling recognized these are some aspects that affect the work culture.

FEEDBACK - The way we give feedback as leaders is very critical. However, when you have a team and even if you have top performer and if they don’t know how to behave. Even if the person was top performer but doesn’t know how to behave and work with people in the team or not communicate with the manager. Then if feedback is not being given to improve to behave better then it becomes a big problem.
