My Customer Service Story
PART ONE
What is customer service for you? I know this probably varies for all of us, and we have different experiences which shape our thinking of what exactly customer service should be. However, today we're going to discuss customer service experience that I recently had. This is one of my favorite aspects and I think the crucial aspects to look at especially when you're looking at running a business or being successful person in whatever you do in life.
‘PROVIDING GOOD CUSTOMER SERVICE CAN BE YOUR CAREER FOUNDATION’
If it's your career or you're just starting off in it, customer service is probably the most important aspect that you need to look at. Today I thought I'd start off my session with a discussion today with one of the recent customer service experiences I personally faced and I would like to share with you. So because it's summer and the weather's been fantastic, we decided to order some furniture especially for our outdoor living space.
SHOPPING TIME!
The kids were quite excited; they wanted to be outdoors all the time and we thought we needed to buy some new stuff just to see what exactly they wanted. So we just decided to pick up a few things, so we placed our order online. There's so many beautiful websites today and the convenience of just being able to order and getting it at home is just bliss, because I remember in 2011, when we had gone to Ikea, the huge store here in Stockholm. It is probably the biggest one in the world, and it was really gigantic and we loved a lot of stuff there.
PHYSICALLY CARRYING GOODS IS A BIG NO-NO.
So we wanted to pick up a few things until we were told that we need to physically carry it ourselves and literally put it in our car and go back and I think that was when we were in complete shock because we thought we could just go there and order but at that point of time online services were not as common and people were physically carrying and picking up things.
THE GOODS ARRIVED...
Now, thanks to the digital world, with a click of a button we have things delivered to our house, which I love. That's what we did, we ordered the furniture we were told we would get in a few days and it did come and then the journey began. It actually arrived on the day when it was raining cats and dogs and the delivery guy came to the gate and said, ‘Can you take it from here?’.
NIGHTMARE BEGINS...
I looked at him, I thought in complete shock because I was like, is he joking right now?! How was I going to pull this thing and the trolley was heavy, extremely heavy. Then I think he kinda felt bad, and what he did is he pushed it into the entrance and then it was still pouring cats and dogs. Then he said, ‘Call the company, they'll pick up the trolley,’ and he just walked away.
TROLLEY IS LEFT AT OUR ENTRANCE...WHAT?!?
I stood there in complete shock. I mean it was pouring rain, I couldn't run after him either so I didn't know what to do so the only thing I thought of doing was go back in and call the company and ask them to take the trolley back. So once we had now physically taken in the furniture on our own, we put it in and called the company up.
Stay tuned for part two soon….
